Clark Campbell Named Big 12 Swim Coach of the Year

Updated:
Press Release University of Kansas:

After leading Kansas to its highest Big 12 finish in school history, head coach Clark Campbell has been named Big 12 Swim Coach of the Year.

Campbell led his team to a second-place finish at the conference championships and crowned the school's first Big 12 Champion: Chelsie Miller in the 400-yard individual medley.

"It's a big testament to our team," Campbell said. "A coach is only as good as his team. This year we had a special group. I feel it's more of a team of the year award because the girls on the team and our staff did a lot to contribute to the success. It's humbling but at the same time, there are a lot of people that helped to receive the results we did as a team."

Campbell praised the culture the team created this season and recognized its influence on its success. The team broke multiple school records and crowned its first All-American in four years. Miller achieved this accomplishment at the NCAA Championships for her performances in the 400-yard individual medley.

"We started the process of bettering the program as a whole this year," Campbell said. "Our team goal next year is to score over 700 points at the Big 12 Championships, which would be about a 100-point improvement form this season. That will help us close the gap on Texas. Our big goal is to bring more people to the NCAA Championships and a relay, as well. We graduated a lot of regular-scoring seniors, but we have a dynamite group of returners and freshmen that will contribute right away."
