Suspect who assaulted Seneca officer sentenced to prison

Updated February 1, 2016:  After entering guilty plea, Rantz was convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer. He's sentenced to 7 years in prison. 

Updated April 15, 2014:  A man suspected of injuring a Seneca, Missouri police officer was captured by U.S. Marshals in Collin County, Texas.

In addition to pending charges in Newton County, Missouri, Cory Rantz also has two holds out of Arkansas, and will be extradited there first.

On Friday a Seneca officer was called to a domestic disturbance involving Rantz, his girlfriend and another man.  Rantz fled.  Later, the same officer spotted Rantz at a convenience store.  The officer tackled Rantz and during the fight the officer suffered a severe concussion.

At last report the officer is off work and recovering.

Posted April 12, 2014:  Seneca police are following leads trying to track down a suspect who injured an officer. Cory Rantz is still on the run. Officials say he's wanted for a probation violation on drug and theft charges out of Arkansas. Friday police were called to a domestic disturbance involving Rantz, his girlfriend and another man. And Rantz fled. Three hours later, the same Seneca officer spotted Rantz at the Big Daddy's convenience store.

The officer tackled Rantz and during the fight the officer suffered a severe concussion. He is now recovering at home. Police say they are looking for Rantz and if anyone sees him to call police.

    Update (4/25):  Joplin police say Ottawa County authorities arrested Cory Reynolds today. --- (4/24/2018) Joplin Police search for a suspect with ten active warrants. Police spotted 41-year-old Cory D. Reynolds Monday afternoon (April 23) around 3:00 at his home near 9th and Chestnut. Authorities say he jumped into a vehicle and drove off.
