Pittsburg - The Pittsburg State University men's outdoor track & field team recorded six individual event victories and 13 NCAA qualifying marks in the Six Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic Saturday (Apr. 12).
The Gorillas enjoyed all-around success in field events, notching 11 NCAA qualifying marks in all.
Jeff Piepenbrink won the pole vault with a clearance of 16 feet, 5.5 inches. Marquise Cushon won the triple jump with a best mark of 50-4.75, while Bo Farrow heaved the discus 179-5.
Additionally, Jayce Phelps placed second in the pole vault (PQ, 16-5.5), Steven Mann finished second in the long jump (PQ, 23-11), John Blazevic placed second in the javelin (PQ, 195-9) and Farrow finished second in the shot put (PQ, 54-5.25).
Jordan Morton placed third in the javelin (PQ, 195-8), while Shane Lundquist finished fourth in the discus (PQ, 169-5) and Cody Holland placed fifth in the discipline (PQ, 169-4). Garrett Appier added a fourth place finish in the shot put (PQ, 52-7.75).
On the track, Bryce Starks earned an NCAA qualifying mark by winning the 100 meters in 10.58 seconds. Andre Sanders also PQ'd with a second-place time of 14.43 in the 110 meter hurdles.
Additionally, Talon Thompson (10:01.40), Austin Bogina (10:05.58) and Tony Weiss (10:10.07) finished first, second and third in the steeplechase. Casey Steinmiller won the 400 meter hurdles in 54.98 and Andrew Rodgers placed third in the 1,500 meters (4:00.80).
