Interchange Ramp Rebuild Begins at Route 171/Route HH near Carterville

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Interchange Ramp Rebuild Begins at Route 171/Route HH

Jasper County - Drivers can expect ramp closings and occasional lane closings at the Route 171/Route HH interchange near Carterville as a project to rebuild the eastbound ramps begins this week, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The project will increase the distance between ramps for drivers traveling northbound to eastbound on Route 249 exiting to Route 171.

The Route 171/Route HH interchange is located very close to the Route 171/Route 249 interchange. Currently, drivers only have 500 feet to exit from Route 249 to the eastbound off ramp at the Route 171/Route HH interchange. In that 500 foot distance, drivers must cross two lanes of traffic to get from Route 249 to the eastbound off ramp at the Route 171/Route HH interchange. When construction is complete, that distance will be tripled, making it easier and safer for drivers to go from Route 249 to the Route 171/Route HH.

The project will require both eastbound ramps at Route 171/Route HH to be closed at times. Also, drivers can expect occasional lane closings on Route 171 and on Route HH. In addition, Guardian Road will be closed for a short time at Route HH.

All work will be done during the day and at least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction for the duration of the project.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Project Information:

Prime Contractor: APAC-Missouri, Columbia

Construction cost: $1.5 million

Completion date: August 29, 2014
