Joplin Street Closure - Cleveland Avenue at 24th Street

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF JOPLIN

Cleveland Avenue will be closed at 24th Street starting Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. until Friday, April 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The street will be closed to traffic as Kenny Singer Construction will have the area closed while they make utility cut repairs. Residents in the area will be allowed access to their property but there will be no through traffic.

Detour routes will be in place. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in these areas and will need to utilize alternate routes during this period.

    After reviewing the Kansas Highway Patrol's investigation, the Cherokee County Kansas Attorney will not file charges against the driver of the van. On May 8th, 2018, two cyclists from Germany were riding on Highway 66 near mile marker 1.8 when they were hit by a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van. The cyclists, 71-year-old Heinz Gerd Buchel and 74-year-old Harry Jung, died at the scene. The highway patrol report states that the van was traveling west in the right lane of K-66 wh...
