Joplin piano recital showcases the talents of 192 music students

Updated:
Put on by the Joplin Piano Teachers Association, the 22nd annual Lois Bellam Honor Piano Recital consisted of nine recitals with 192 students participating. Each student gains eligibility to play in the honors event by previously participating in one of the associations' festivals and monthly recitals. Organizers say it gives young musicians the opportunity to showcase their skills.

"It just gives students that are taking piano lessons in the area, we have about 40 teachers in the area that send students to our events, and it gives them the opportunity to play, to perform, and to craft their instrument," said Bob Durham of Joplin Piano Teachers Association.

At the end of each recital, there were drawings for prizes, all donated by local businesses.
