Overnight police presence substantial in Baxter Springs

Updated:
The massive storm, nearly 2 miles wide, roared through Baxter Springs, Kansas leaving behind a path of destruction.

When the storm blew through Baxter Springs on Sunday, leveling homes and destroying businesses, Cherokee County Kansas Sheriff David Groves and his team of first responders raced to help the victims, but that help didn't end when the storm moved out. He and a number of first responders immediately stepped up enforcing a curfew and providing security in the damaged areas of town.

"We want folks to rest assure we have a lot of law enforcement resource employed to the impact zone. We understand they're having to leave their valuables and their property and that's unnerving in a bad situation anyway, and so our object is that their property is safe while they're gone, said Sheriff Groves.

The curfew is from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
