Clarissa Davis selected to attend the 2014 N.E.W Leadership Conference

Miami, Okla. – Tuesday, April 29, 2014 – Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), student Clarrisa Davis was chosen to participate at the N.E.W Leadership Conference this year. A five-day program will take place from May 16-20 at the University of Oklahoma (OU), campus in Norman, Okla. for selected female undergraduate students. This is a competitive selection based on the application that determines potential leadership abilities, interest in politics and service, and unique and diverse characteristics or experiences that contributes to the conference.

Approximately 35 women were selected to participate in this five-day statewide conference.

Three essays and two recommendation letters were part of the application process. Evaluating Davis’ past success and passion served as determining factors to be invited to the conference.

Davis is an early childhood education major from Afton, Okla. She is wife of Shawn Davis and daughter of Edyth and the late Delmar Tincknell. Davis is a member of the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Business Club, and she is actively involved in her church’s monthly business meetings and community programs. She worked in NEO’s lab school and in a Miami public school classroom where she performed so well, she was asked by the principal to return in the spring to volunteer two days each week. She also served as the director of her church’s vacation bible school program.

The National Education for Women's Leadership institute (N.E.W. Leadership) is an award-winning program that empowers and educates undergraduate women to get actively involved in public service and politics. This beneficial program has led young female leaders since its beginning in 2002 and continues to thrive, successfully achieving its goal to benefit promising future female leaders. The program is also part of the N.E.W. Leadership National Network at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
