NEWS RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY
PSU students qualify for SkillsUSA nationals
Two Pittsburg State students placed first in their respective categories at this month’s SkillsUSA Kansas competition.
The annual competition, which challenges university, college and high school students to complete a variety of tasks in many technology-related categories, took place last week in Salina.
Pitt State automotive service technology student Joe Carpenter, a freshman from Oak Grove, Mo., took first place in the Automotive Technology Service Technology skills category. Mark Welle, a junior wood technology major from Milford, Iowa, placed first in the Cabinetmaking category.
Both will move on to national competition in June, which takes place in Kansas City.
“We’re very proud of the way our students performed at the state conference, and it will be exciting to see them compete at nationals,” said Steve Polley, PSU auto tech instructor and SkillsUSA coach.
