Principal of St. Mary's Retires:New Leadership when New School Opens this Fall

This fall  St. Mary's elementary students move to a new school,  rebuilt  in a new site,  after the May 22, 2011 tornado. And they'll have a new principal as  Stephen Jones  is retiring.
On Sunday a reception was held for Jones who spent eight years as principal of St. Mary's.
Teachers, parents and students wrote messages that will go with him, as many viewed photo boards showing his willingness to  have a little fun at school. Jones was at the helm when the school was destroyed by the 2011 tornado and at the temporary school.
He says the timing is right to retire  with other changes coming with the new school.
Jones says, "When new principals come in you kind of have to adjust and so forth from the former administration, and try to work things, and try to create that path you want to go.
And I felt like this would be a great time for the new person to get  in get it started in the direction that they want  and need it to be."
Jones is  a big cardinals fan.  And  says retirement will allow him to see lots of games professional and those of his grandchildren.  But he says he'll still be around announcing games for McAuley  in Joplin.
