Summer brings opening of Joplin Aquatic Centers

Updated:

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF JOPLIN

As warmer weather approaches, it’s time to start thinking about how you are going to cool off this summer! The Joplin pools are a great way to do this, and they’re open for events too. This year’s opening day for Schifferdecker, Ewert, and Cunningham Family Aquatic Centers is Saturday, May 24.

The Family Aquatic Centers offer various amenities for children of all ages and their families, including a family changing area, concession area, a zero depth entry into the main pool area; an in-pool shaded rest area; and interactive spray features. Each center has various amenities that draw kids of all ages into the water. Younger children will enjoy play areas in the water, and more experienced swimmers can jump, dive and slide their way into the water. For those enjoy the sunshine or prefer to stay dry, expanded deck areas with sunbathing opportunities plus several shaded canopy areas with deck furniture are featured at each location.

Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is located at 4th and Schifferdecker Streets. Admission is four dollars for children, five dollars for adults 16 years of age and older, and children age 2 and under are admitted free of charge.

Cunningham Aquatic Center is located at 24th and Maiden Lane Streets. Admission is three dollars for children, four dollars for adults 16 years of age and older, and children age 2 and under are admitted free of charge.

Ewert Aquatic Center is located at 5th and School Streets. Admission is $2.50 for children, $3.50 for adults 16 years of age and older, and children age 2 and under are admitted free of charge.

Pools are open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with the exception of Ewert, which will be closed on Mondays.

Swim Season Passes

Season passes are also available for admission to all three aquatic centers, and offer unlimited admission to all three of the pools throughout the season.

A family season pass is $125. The individual adult season passes, ages 17 and up is $70 and individual children season passes, ages 3 to 16 and senior citizen passes, ages 60 and up, is $60. Passes are on sale at the Joplin Athletic Complex. For more information, call 417-625-4750.

Family Swim Nights at Schifferdecker

Enjoy an evening of swimming every Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schifferdecker Aquatic Center. Admission is half off regular pricing. A parent must be present for children to participate.

Adult Lap Swim at Schifferdecker

Joplin Parks and Recreation is offering an adult lap swim time at Schifferdecker Aquatic Center from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Admission for this is $1.50 per visit or swimmers may use their season pass.

Private parties

Private pool parties can be held at Schifferdecker and Cunningham locations from 6:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. To rent Cunningham Aquatic Center for this activity, the fee is $125 per hour. Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is available for $200 an hour for rental of the entire facility. To rent just the lazy river area or the competition pool, the fee is $125 per hour.
