Joplin kids gear up for summer with scavenger hunt

Updated:
Joplin kids are gearing up for summer, after completing a scavenger hunt at McClelland Park this afternoon.
All kids, ages 3 through 12, who completed the hunt were given a goodie bag with an all day pass to any one of the three aquatic centers in Joplin.
Hosted by the Joplin Parks and Recreation Department, the kids searched the park for any item they could find beginning with each letter of the alphabet.
Families were also offered free lunch, of which most food items were donated.
"It's a good way to get out into our parks," said coordinator Jessica Stone, Joplin Parks and Recreation Department.  "We have so many parks in Joplin that people don't know about and so it's a great way to show we have these big, huge parks and you can come and play and it's free."
"It's really fun and there are a lot of kids who come here, so you can socialize," said Jasmine Woerner, 3rd grader.  "You can meet a lot of new kids and have friends."
Coordinators also answered any questions parents had on upcoming programs through the Parks and Recreation Department, which includes a summer T-ball league for 5 and 6-year-old children.
