St. James United Methodist Church thanks members and volunteers

St. James United Methodist Church re-opened its doors last year on Easter Sunday. But today, more than one year later, a special ceremony was held to say thank you to all those who donated money, labor and time to rebuilding the new sanctuary.

Several donating members of churches from outside the state were present to share their stories.

Church officials say that while the memory of the tornado is still strong, it is important to move forward.

"They said 10 years it would take for things to come back to be normal," said Pastor Sharon Freeman. "Whatever normal will look like. The biggest thing that we miss is the trees of course, all the vegetation, and the wildlife. It's rare to see a squirrel or a bird. So it would be nice to have some wildlife back, so I think that's probably what we miss the most."

The church service featured selections from the tri-state barbershop men's chorus and concluded with a thank-you buffet dinner.
