Name of Joplin shooting victim released; unknown who the suspect is at this time

Updated May 20, 2014 - NEWS RELEASE FROM THE JOPLIN POLICE DEPARTMENT

The investigation into the shooting that occurred at 2720 S. Iowa is still ongoing. We have determined that there was another person involved that shot the victim one time in the abdomen with an unknown handgun. The victim has been identified as David Erickson, a 34 year old male from Joplin. He remains in stable condition at the hospital.

It is unknown who the suspect is at this time. We are still asking for anyone with information about this incident to contact the Joplin Police Department with that information.

On May 19, 2014 at approximately 2:00AM, Officers with the Joplin Police Department were dispatched to Freeman West ER for a 34 year old male subject that was at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. A female subject had brought the male to the hospital and dropped him off.

After further investigation, it was determined that the shooting incident occurred at the male subject’s residence which is located at 2720 S. Iowa in Joplin. It is unknown at this time whether the gunshot was self-inflicted or whether the subject was shot by someone else. The subject of the shooting is not being forthcoming with information at this time. The subject is currently listed in stable condition at the hospital. The Joplin Police Department’s Investigations Bureau is currently investigating the incident.

    A Galena, Kansas man pleads guilty to two arsons from the spring and summer. Ronny Ray Piercefield admits that he set a grass fire on North Jefferson Street in Galena in March. That fire eventually engulfed a small structure. Piercefield also pleaded guilty to setting a fire that engulfed 68 bales of hay in rural Cherokee County, Kansas in July of 2018.
