Auction sells Joplin's Academy Sports and Backyard Burgers properties

An auction this afternoon at the courthouse in Joplin was to help settle the accounts of a Southwest Missouri man indicted for fraud.

According to federal prosecutors, 57-year-old Richard Gregg of Springfield, Missouri, was involved in a series of bank and wire fraud schemes amounting to more than $3 million.  A court ordered the sale of some of his real estate holdings, which includes properties on Rangeline Road.

Those properties include ones currently leased to Academy Sports Outdoors and Backyard Burgers.

Warren Davis Properties from Springfield, Missouri bought the property Academy Sports sits on.

The Academy, we'll continue to lease to Academy.  And then the 30,000 feet right beside it, we'll do the infill of heat and air conditioning, lighting.  What we call infill, inside the building, for a new tenant," says Warren Davis.

There's no word on the plans for Backyard Burgers.
