International Teams compete in Baja Event at PSU

Updated:
100 teams from engineering schools around the world are competing in a Baja SAE Kansas Competition at Pittsburg State University.

Team Venezuela traveled 2,000 plus miles for the competition. Part of the nine member crew arrived earlier this week, more members will arrive at Kansas City International Airport Thursday evening.

"It's very different to my country, we don't have this green space this university its much bigger than our university," said Klvin Linares with Team Venezuela.

The competition simulates real world engineering. Students design, build, produce, and will test their vehicles on a rough terrain over the four day event.

Team Venezuela says its a big deal to their friends and family back at home.

"Because we want to demonstrate that in Venezuela we are competitive too, beside all the problems we have, the economic problems, the political problems because it's difficult for us we don't have the material we don't have the money," said Linares.

More than 1,100 students are registered in the event.
