Online Report ranks Best and Worst States for Military Veterans

An online report ranks the best and the worst states for military retirees.

The findings mention there are many factors involved such as tax policies and military benefits.

The veteran population in America is fighting a new war, that's finding employment.

Recent statistics show the jobless rate for veterans is 6.6% and that number could worsen as the Pentagon considers downsizing armed forces.

TAMKO employs more than 60 veterans in the Joplin-area.

"Every member of my immediate member of my family was in the service after a period of personal resistance I reevaluated my career and goals and make that my decision as well," said TAMKO employee Jennifer McDaniel.

"I joined the Army - my family has a tradition of military service - my father was Marine all my uncles were in the Navy, Army, or Marines for some period of time," said TAMKO employee John Sweeny.

McDaniel and Sweeny have found a home a TAMKO."

"[TAMKO] Values based organization honesty, integrity, compliance which are very similar to the values the Army spouses," said Sweeny.

"They actually live by their core values and code of ethics, which is pretty phenomenal you don't see that everywhere," said McDaniel.

A report by the Wallet Hub ranks Missouri number 28 out of all the 50 states for the best and worst states for military veterans.

The findings ranked each states economic environment, quality of life, and healthcare.

Missouri ranked 25 for economic environment, 32 for quality of life, and 36 for its healthcare.

"Missouri has been a wonderful state to live in - I'm originally for New York City and we love it out here," said Sweeny.

New York ranked 50.

The report also includes states with the most veteran job opportunities, and the highest percent of homeless veterans.

Kansas ranked number 8.
