5K run benefits Safehouse Crisis Center

Updated:
The Safehouse Crisis Center in Pittsburg relies heavily on donations and fundraisers to cover the payroll of those who work at the center.
Proceeds from today's 5K run at Lincoln Park went towards just that.
Participants wore electric timing chips to document their performance.
The Safehouse Crisis Center provides a shelter to people who have suffered domestic violence in their homes.
The center also offers many other programs such as counseling or child visitation.
"Domestic violence is a significant problem and the main problem that it causes is that it affects the children that are in those families or in those relationships," said coordinator David Huerter.  "It can cause long term emotional harm if a child has to be involved in that kind of situation."
This was the center's first 5K fundraising event and the group hopes to host another run next year.
