Pittsburg locals march against genetically-modified foods

Some 4-staters gathered for March Against Monsanto, a global initiative working to raise awareness about explicit food labeling and genetically-modified organisms in foods. Area residents held signs and marched from the Pittsburg Farmers Market to 4th Street and back. Those involved spoke against the large chemical and agricultural corporation Monsanto, calling the movement a call to action.

"We're here today to ask for transparency and truth in labeling for what we're eating and to have the right to know and to choose what we eat," said organizer Regina Winemiller.

More than 50 countries and 47 states participated in the march today. The participants also touted the benefits of buying produce that is grown locally without the use of pesticides.
