Lawmakers say 3/4 sales tax is needed to improve Missouri highways, bridges and roads

Updated:
With the high amount of drivers passing through Missouri this holiday weekend, many may notice that the state's highways are in need of repairs.

Lawmakers passed a measure to put a three-quarter cent sales tax on the August ballot, which would provide more funding for the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The money raised through the tax would go towards road and bridge repairs and towards work on Interstate 70, making it six lanes.
"Whenever you're moving products across the central part of the United States, across ,Missouri, for industry and economic development, roads are very, very important," said state representative Bill Reiboldt, District 160.
Lawmakers say the sales tax would have a 10-year sunset on it and 10 percent will come back to the counties.
