Drive-Thru Jobfest Makes Stops Across Southwest Missouri

The job search can be an overwhelming process for many. That's why the Workforce Investment Board is making it easier for applicants...all you need to do is drive through.

The internet...it's usually the first place you go when searching for your next job. But there are other options.

"Each and every county is near and dear to our hearts, so we wanted to bring job openings in each of those counties to the people looking for them." says Troy Roland, aka, The Job Genie.

At this years Drive-thru job fest stop in Carl Junction...it's as easy as it sounds.
You drive up, see the job genie, and drive away. The information from employers looking to hire is right in your hand, Which makes it convenient for those who may not be able to attend a usual job fair.

One job seeker says: "I've been in bed sick all day. If I would have known I would have dressed up."
The drive-thru job fest is making its rounds at 8 different locations across Southwest Missouri bringing new opportunities for job seekers.
"These employers are looking for real people to fill these real jobs right now, and that's why we've painstakingly made sure that there's not a lot of recruitment ads in this bag." says Bubba Evansco, of the Workforce Investment Board.
But with so many stops, and so many applicants on the hunt...how do you land that position?
Evansco says it all comes down to the basics.

"Employers are looking for skills. So even if you don't have a lot of experience or you're a young person, but you've baby-sat, you've helped at church, you've helped with fundraiser's, all those are translatable skills that you can put into the workplace." he says.

He also says your resume has to be an attention getter.

"You have about 6 seconds to grab that employers attention with your resume. I don't think they're going to make it through your objective statement in most cases, so it's really about you and the skill set you possess."

Another recommendation? Updating your resume frequently, with newly acquired skills.
Officials say with that up-to-date, stand-out resume...your next job is just a short distance away.
"Go home. Learn a little bit about those companies in that bag, what openings they have, and which ones you want to apply for." The Job Genie says.

The jobfest continues with 2 final stops in Pineville and Neosho on 5/30/14.
