Names released from Joplin prostitution sting; 11 arrested

Update: Joplin Police piloted the sting at a Joplin Motel on Rangeline.

Undercover officers used a website called Backpage.com.

"We responded to some ads that been placed on this website. We also placed factitious ads that the males responded to," said Lt. Matt Stewart with the Joplin Police.  

Those facing prostitution charges face a maximum penalty of a $500  fine and up to 100 days in jail.


NEWS RELEASE FROM THE JOPLIN POLICE DEPARTMENT

On May 30, 2014, Officers with the Joplin Police Department’s Investigations Bureau conducted a prostitution sting at an un-named hotel in Joplin. During this operation the Investigations Bureau arrested two females for prostitution and also arrested nine males for soliciting prostitution. One of the males was also arrested for resisting arrest. Below is a list of names of those that were arrested. All were arrested on misdemeanor charges and were transported to the Joplin City Jail for booking.

  • James Beegle, 49 year old male from Joplin—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Jessica Vidlak, 32 year old female from Springfield—Arrested for Prostitution
  • Michael Rees, 52 year old male from Fort Wayne, IN—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Shawn Sweeney, 45 year old male from Joplin—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Marc Schroeder, 45 year old male from Pittsburg, KS—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Travis Sprenkle, 38 year old male from Carthage—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Mark Strunk, 43 year old male from Joplin—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Douglas Willette, 46 year old male from Pitts, TX—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution and Resisting Arrest
  • Lisa Allison, 36 year old female from Joplin—Arrested for Prostitution
  • Taylor Spruce, 25 year old male from Wyandotte, OK—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
  • Justin Berberich, 28 year old male from Pittsburg, KS—Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution
