Monster truck competition rolls into Miami, Oklahoma

Monster trucks are gearing up for a competition at the Miami, Oklahoma fairgrounds.  The event is tonight and Saturday.

Ten monster trucks and about 35 tough trucks will be competing, awarded points by judges and also the crowd's cheer.

The winner gets some pretty nice bragging rights.

"The monster truck drivers accumulate points for all the events from both nights, and at the end of the Saturday night event, we award the King of Miami trophy.  It's about a 72 pound trophy, about four foot tall, and it's pretty awesome," says John Darnell, event organizer.

One truck driver says he's fueled by audience participation.

"When we're in the air, say we hit something and we're jumping 40 feet in the air and ripping the motor, keeping the front end up, we can still hear the crowd over the engine," says monster truck driver and Kentucky native Derick Anson.

This is the 32nd year for the competition in Miami.  For more information, click here.
