NEWS RELEASE FROM WYANDOTTE TRIBE OF OKLAHOMA

Ballistic vest arrives for tribal police department’s K9 officer

The ballistic vest for Wyandotte Nation Tribal / Municipal Police Department (WNTPD) K9 Officer “Joker” arrived. The vest was part of a nationwide Groupon event that raised more than $250,000 in just over a week.

The Groupon Grassroots campaign was an effort to outfit police K9s with bullet and stab protective vests. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., is the non-profit organization and charity partner that was selected by Groupon Grassroots to participate.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, Mass., whose mission it is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the U.S. Each vest costs $950 and has a five-year warranty. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four legged K9 Officers. Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided 585 law enforcement dogs in 39 states with protective vests since 2009.

WNTPD Officer Joker was one of the law enforcement dogs to receive a vest as part of this year’s effort.
