PSU students and staff donate beds to families in need

Updated:
You may have noticed quite a few beds coming out the Pitt State campus today.

Some student athletes and staff donated some beds from Nation Hall to an organization called Caring for Kids.  If a family is in need of a bed during open enrollment at Pittsburg High School in August, families can fill out a form and be put on a list to receive a bed.

Family Resource Center workers say they're impressed with the PSU students' act of giving.

"They're community-minded.  That's the nice thing, through the school systems, they help teach how to be community-minded within their own community.  And they're always willing to help out.  We couldn't do it without them," says Ann Elliott, executive director of the Family Resource Center.

"They are excited.  They are just happy to get them.  Very thankful.  Everyone is really happy when they arrive.  We also have community members adopt a bed, and so what they will do is buy the bedding for the beds so when we deliver the bed, not only is it a bed and mattress, but it's a pillow and bedding.  And out community members at large do that also for us," says Elliott.

Last year, Pitt State donated more than 100 beds.  This year, about 200 beds will be donated.
