Man found deceased by train tracks in Cherokee County

At approximately 5:25 am, emergency personnel were dispatched to the railroad tracks north of Coal Valley Road and east of Kansas Highway 7. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that a man, identified as Shanon D. Devore, 30, of Pittsburg, had been struck by a train and was deceased.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. The preliminary investigation indicates Devore had been fishing and camping nearby throughout the night.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing at this time.
