Neosho PD warns of scam

The Neosho Police Department received information of a scam that is being conducted by phone in Neosho.

The caller stated they are with their local police department soliciting money. In this case, the caller had downloaded a phone app that showed the police department’s direct line phone number on caller ID. The caller told the victim that this was for an outstanding debt owed from a loan center.

It was portrayed to the victim that if this owed debt was not paid, a warrant would be issued for his arrest.

“The Neosho Police Department does not get involved in civil matters involving debtors,” stated Neosho Police Chief Dave McCracken. “Therefore, we are warning the public in case anyone receives the same or similar calls.”

“We warn the public of scams such as this because they are becoming more common in our area," McCracken continued. “If there is any question about the validity of someone contacting you, we urge you to contact your local law enforcement agency.”

The Neosho Police Department office may be reached during business hours at 451-8012. Otherwise, call 451-8333.
