Authorities investigating report of a man impersonating an officer, committing a robbery

On this date at 1411 hours the Newton County Sheriffs Office received information that a man reported that he had been robbed on 43 highway. The victim reported that he had been pulled over by a blue 4 door car. He took it to be a police officer because of the use of the lights and siren. The victim states that a W/M, dressed in a blue uniform asked him for his wallet. The man then produced a weapon and when the victim gave him the wallet he removed the mans money and left south on 43 highway. The suspect is described as a W/M, late 20's to early 30's 510-180 pounds. He was wearing a blue uniform with a silver badge and was wearing some type of duty belt. The Newton County Sheriffs Office is currently investigating.

Chief Deputy Chris Jennings.
