Cross Country Cycling team stop in Pittsburg

Updated:
A group of cyclists is doing what it can to raise awareness for those affect by Multiple Sclerosis.

25 bike riders from across the United States set out on a journey, to ride from one part of our nation to the other.

Jane Carr has MS and is riding along with members of the Bike for MS.

The team raises funds for research and treatment through cross country cycling trips.

"I feel like I been really fortunate, but not everybody is this fortunate," said Carr.

Her journey has inspired Rhonda Thompson of Pittsburg who was diagnosed with the disease in 2001.

"It's a matter of respect to me that I let them know I appreciate what they're doing for the MS community," said Thompson.

On Friday, Thompson plans on riding 15 miles with the team.

"Some of my daughters best memories are on the back of my bicycle," said Thompson.

The Borderwalk foundation along with community volunteers provided overnight accommodations and meals for the group in Pittsburg.

According to the Bike for MS website the group has already raised more than $200,000.

The bikers also do service projects across the country for those affected with MS.
