Montgomery County 2 year old drowns in swimming pool

OFFICIAL RELEASE FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY, KS:

Montgomery County Sheriff Robert Dierks indicated that a 2 year old girl from Dearing has died after being discovered in a swimming pool late Sunday night.  

Sheriff Dierks stated that emergency services were notified at approximately 10:00pm Sunday evening that 2 year old Amber L. Santorella had been discovered floating in a pool near the child's resident in Dearing and that she was not breathing.  According to the information gathered from the investigation, Santorella was discovered missing from her bedroom and the family began to search the area around the residence for her. Santorella was found in the pool by her foster parent, who jumped in and removed her from the pool.

Sheriff Dierks stated that Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office as well as Coffeyville EMS and Dearing Firefighters responded to the scene and began to attempt to resuscitate the child, who was transported to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Shortly thereafter, Santorella was transported to St. Frances Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma by aircraft.  

Sheriff Dierks indicated that the Sheriff Office's was notified early this morning that Santorella has passed away as a result of the injury sustained in the pool.  Sheriff Dierks stated that the incident is being investigated as an accident and at this time, no foul play suspected.
