Fort Scott reopens Ellis Park to celebrate the 4th

In Fort Scott, Kansas, the city officially opened the newly revitalized  Ellis park tonight with its "Independence Day" celebration.

Everything from a five-k run this morning to inflatables for the kids.

There also was  live music all day Friday, not to mention a softball tournament, sand volleyball tournament,  and a watermelon feed.

City officials say the independence day  event was a great way to welcome ellis park back into the community.

Funds raised during the  event will go towards creating a "kids play safe zone" in the park.
