Team Rubicon, a disaster relief organization which unites the skills of military veterans with first responders, is pleased to welcome retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré to its board of advisors.

Best known for his no-nonsense leadership of Joint Task Force Katrina in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Honoré retired in 2008, following 37 years of active service with the Army.

During his career, Honoré held several key commands including commanding general of the First Army. He continues to speak and consult nationally on building a Culture of Preparedness in America.

We are humbled to have the support of General Honoré, said William McNulty, Team Rubicon cofounder. He often says that hope is not a method and we couldnt agree more. His experience, leading our military in war and disaster, will help us further strengthen our capabilities.

Team Rubicon was founded in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake by McNulty and Jake Wood, both Marine veterans. It has grown from eight to 16,000 members with more than 60 operations under its belt, including Haiti, Superstorm Sandy, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The nonprofit is currently responding to floods in Iowa and Missouri, on the heels of several tornado responses this year. Beyond disaster relief, Team Rubicon helps veterans find a renewed sense of purposevital as many return to civilian life after more than a decade of war.

Team Rubicon has bold plans to continue its growth, and expand its work to include all phases of disaster, including readiness and recoverywork Honoré knows well.

Honoré is a native of Lakeland, La. He was commissioned as an infantry officer and awarded a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Agriculture upon graduation from Southern University and A&M College in 1971. He holds a Master of Arts in Human Resources from Troy State University, as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Southern University and A&M College, an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from Stillman College, and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Stillman College.

Honorés awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of subsequent award), the Distinguished Service Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (four Oak Leaf Clusters), the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (two Bronze Service Stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (one Bronze Service Star) the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (4), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi), the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. Qualification badges include the Expert Infantry Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Joint Staff Identification Badge.
