Joplin officials meet with the city's master developer to discuss pending projects

Updated:
Raymond Braswell of Wallace Bajjali Development Partners voices his concerns.

"It's just very difficult for financing people to finance a project that has no intended use at the time. But we got past that and we'll close on the property anyway."

Braswell is discussing the vacant Coca Cola building at 13Virginiania Avenue, currently owned by the Joplin Redevelopment Corporation.

At Tuesday's JRC meeting, Braswell said the firm still plans to purchase the property from the JRC to host a new post office, which would be a merger of the two current offices.

But these plans are still in the works.

"You know, the JRC, in terms of selling that then, it's up to Wallace Bajjali to move forward with the process," said JRC member Fred Osborn.

"The unfortunate part about it is, since we haven't got anything put together with the post office consolidation on that sight, we don't have a use for that property," said Braswell.

In the event the post office plans fall through, Braswell says Wallace Bajjali is already working on other optiVirginia1301 Virigina Ave.

But this month, he says the firm's main focus is on another project mentioned at the meeting: the vacant space at 20th and Connecticut where the developers plan to host a new movie theatre.

"It's a really exciting project," said Braswell. "It wilfarewell Joplin."
a
Braswell says the purchase and project start of 20th and Connecticut is scheduled to happen in December.

And as for the property at 1301 Virginia, Braswell confirmed Wallace Bajjali will close on August 8th.
