Nomination Deadline for Maple Leaf Grand Marshal Approaching

Carthage, Missouri – Nominations are currently being accepted for the 48th Annual Maple Leaf Festival Grand Marshal. Nomination forms may be picked up at the Chamber office, 402 S Garrison, Carthage, you may call 417-358-2373 to have them faxed or e-mailed to you or you may find them at www.carthagemapleleaf.com. Nominations must be submitted on the official form.

Deadline for accepting nominations is 4 p.m. on August 1st. This deadline is for actual receipt of nomination form at the Chamber office. Please return your nomination form to Carthage Chamber of Commerce, Attn: Mary Jo Little, 402 S. Garrison, Carthage, MO 64836 or mjlittle@carthagechamber.com.

“Being chosen to be Maple Leaf Festival Grand Marshal is such an honor,” said Jeanine Poe, Chairperson of the 48th Annual Maple Leaf Festival Committee. “The Maple Leaf committee receives numerous nominations of highly respected citizens who have made significant contributions to the community each year. Please be sure to be specific and detailed when you nominate a potential Grand Marshal so the committee will have ample information to choose the best nominee for the 2014 festival.”

    A local attorney and a Joplin resident have filed a lawsuit claiming they lost money in a deal to remove debris after the Joplin tornado. Court documents show DRC Emergency Services asked Edward Hershewe and Jackie McClendon to provide debris cleanup services after the Joplin tornado. Te contract said that the DRC Emergency Services would pay Hershewe 34 percent of the profits and McClendon would receive 6 percent.
