Mt. Carmel Foundation Receives Rita J. Bicknell Women's Health Grant

PITTSBURG, Kan. (August 3, 2014) –The Mount Carmel Foundation announced that it is the recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Rita J. Bicknell Women’s Health Fund from the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. The grant will benefit the Mount Carmel Foundation’s new initiative called “Confidence and Comfort: Empowering Women After Treatment.”

The Rita J. Bicknell Women’s Health Fund presentation takes place Tuesday, August 5 at 10 a.m. in the Via Christi Cancer Center. Representatives from the Mount Carmel Foundation, Via Christi Hospital, and Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas will be available for comment before and after the presentation.

“The Mount Carmel Foundation is extremely thankful to the Rita J. Bicknell Women’s Health Fund grant to help women in our community who are fighting cancer,” Mount Carmel Foundation Senior Director Johnna Norton said. “With this gift, the Via Christi Cancer Center will be able to provide continued supporting education, increased awareness, and the sharing of life quality benefits to all women.”

Via Christi Cancer Center in Pittsburg was recently presented with the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. The Via Christi Cancer Center is one of a select group of only 74 U.S. accredited health care facilities, and the only cancer center in the Four States, to receive this national honor and receive all eight out of eight commendations from the American College of Surgeons. The award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.
