Practice Report - Aug. 14

Updated:

Press Release University of Arkansas:

On the day the SEC launched its much anticipated network, the University of Arkansas football team completed No. 13 of 24 preseason practices Thursday, passing the halfway mark of fall camp.

Jen Bielema started the day off with a bang, completing the ALS ice bucket challenge, while Razorbacks showed up strong at afternoon practice, despite the intense heat.

Venue: Outdoor practice fields

Format: Full Pads

Highlights: Running back Chris Jones made a great block on inside run drills… Showcasing his athleticism, wide receiver Demetrius Wilson made a diving grab… Freshman safety Josh Liddell made strong defensive plays on the ball in the secondary… Cornerback Tevin Mitchel also showed defensive expertise as he caught a tricky interception.

Quote of the Day: “We’ve had a long summer, we’re getting into the fall now and we’re ready to play. Obviously there’s still some things that were going to fine tune and get corrected. I think we’re all itching for August 30th.”– QB Brandon Allen (@BrandonAllen_10) on the anticipation of the season-opener

RB Alex Collins (@Budda03) on the lessons he learned watching last season’s film: “I ultimately want to get everything that I missed out on and that’s part of me going back, watching film, to make up for the mistakes I made. Not just reading that one key and hitting it, I want to try to take a look at everything and get a full scan of the field and take the best opportunity possible. That’s what I’m working on.”

Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney (@CoachJimChaney) on today’s practice: “Great day of work today. Went out full pads, worked on a little bit everything. I don’t recall a ball on the ground today. I think Damon Mitchell made a good catch and Demetrius Wilson did too on some tight zone play. I was pleased with how everyone played today. It wasn’t perfect, but at the end of the day, I thought everyone had a good mindset to go out there and get a lot of work done today.”

Assistant Coach Michael Smith (@CoachMichaelSmi) on the battle for the Z receiver position: “Both guys are playing really well, Keon Hatcher had a good night last night, not that Drew Morgan had a bad night, but it’s been going back and forth. It’s a great thing for our position and a great thing for our team to have that type of competition. They’re both so supportive of each other, you don’t get to hear them after they run off the field.”
