Pitt State Lettermen to Participate in Gorilla Walk Saturday

For the fifth consecutive season, Pittsburg State University head football coach Tim Beck and his staff have invited all lettermen to participate in the "Gorilla Walk" during pre-game activiies leading up to the Gorillas home opener at Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium.


The Gorillas will make their season debut Saturday (Sept. 6) at 7 p.m. (CDT) against MIAA rival Northeastern State University.

Pitt State football lettermen are asked to meet the coaching staff and players at the west side of the Garfield Weede P.E. Building at 5:15 p.m. to prepare for the "Gorilla Walk". Lettermen also are encouraged to wear red in support of Pitt State's Gorilla Warfare Call to Action #codered initiative with the contest.

    The Joplin Police Department responded to a crash this morning (April 19) around 9:50. Authorities say Brian R. Taylor was driving west on Murphy Blvd when he crossed the center of the road, drove off the side and hit an electronic traffic control box on the southwest corner of Murphy Blvd and Connecticut Avenue in Joplin.     COUNCILMAN RESIGNS A newly elected Joplin City Council member steps down, due to prior drug convictions.  Joshua Bard was charged in 2005 in Newton County for "manufacturing a controlled substance".  Joplin's Mayor Gary Shaw tells us Bard's replacement will be selected by the council.  He says he hopes to start the process very soon.     Newly elected Joplin City Council member Joshua Bard has resigned from council. Bard confirmed to KOAM that his resignation is connected to a drug conviction from 2005.  Mayor Gary Shaw tells us the council will begin accepting applications for a new council member, and that member will be selected by the council. He hopes to address the now vacant seat as early as the next meeting.
