2nd annual Color Dash raises more than $7,000 for Joplin Humane Society

Updated:
The 2nd annual Color Dash in Joplin raises more than $7,000 for the Joplin Humane Society.

More than 400 runners participated in the 5K, which began at Landreth Park.

Many dressed up in colorful outfits and paint was thrown on participants both before and during the run.

Runners say it's a fun event for any age or running level and isn't your typical 5K.

"It's more fun this way," said Matt Haag, runner. "With all the paint, people get more involved."

"It's fun that everyone is kind of into it," said Leslie Owens, runner. "Everyone is just really committed to it, so it makes it a little bit more fun and exciting."

Runners say they are also happy to support helping animals in the community.

"I think it's a good organization to support so people treat animals right, they don't abuse them and we just take care of our pets," Haag said.

"We have a lot of pets that don't have homes and it helps take care of them," said Samantha Buckridge, runner. "My dog is actually from the Joplin Humane Society, so I'm glad to be able to help that organization."

Organizers say they are planning to host the Color Dash again next year.
