Pittsburg family hosts all-day fundraiser for children dealing with serious illnesses

The event, Lylahpalooza, is named after Delylah Harris, a 1-year-old girl who died last fall from congenital heart failure.

The day included a morning zumbathon, silent auction, bake sale and local bands. The funds collected from each event will go toward helping several area families, including that of 12-year-old Payton Kannar from Pittsburg who is battling leukemia.

Leslie Harris, the event organizer, says the day's funds also aid other efforts and charities.

"To help people understand how to become an organ donor," says Harris. "It's not just putting it on your drivers licence. We're also colleting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House and signing up for NICU helping hands to volunteer to make wedding dresses into angel gowns for those children who don't make it out of the NICU."

The event was held on September 13 the day Delylah was born.
