ESC Launches Emergency Heating Assistance Program

Joplin, MO - Starting Wednesday, October 1, 2014, Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area (ESC) will be offering winter utility assistance to low-income families in Barton, Jasper, Newton and McDonald Counties.

The Community Action Agency will be taking applications for households who have an elderly or disabled household member. All other households can apply for the program in the month of November. Households must be must be low income and also meet eligibility criteria.

People who believe they qualify for this program can visit the agency's website for more information or visit one of the ESC outreach centers for additional help. Please note that due to budget constraints people applying for Energy Assistance and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program will need to provide their own copies of documentation.

Funding for the Energy Assistance program and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program is provided through the Missouri Department of Social Services, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Economic Security Corporation of the Southwest Area (ESC) is Joplin's local Community Action Agency.

    Tuition is still going up at Missouri Southern State University, but it's tweaking the cost increase to credit hours to avoid a state fine. Missouri Southern's Board of Governors approved a 15 percent increase in student tuition last April, upping credit hours by $30.
