Joplin Blasters Officially Join American Association

Updated:
Joplin, MO - The American Association League Meetings have concluded after two days in Sioux City, Iowa and of the major decisions made was to officially include the Joplin Blasters as a member beginning immediately for the 2015 season.

The Joplin Blaster will play in the South Division of the American Association along with the Amarillo Sox, Grand Prairie Airhogs, Laredo Lemurs and 2014 AA League Champions Wichita Wingnuts. The Blasters' will play a 100 game schedule beginning in May of 2015, with an exact schedule being released in the upcoming months.

"This is an outstanding division for our team to compete in, and we are looking forward to a strong schedule next season," said Blasters' Co-Owner Gabe Suarez. "Not only do you have the defending champions in Wichita, but also the wild card winning Laredo Lemurs in our division, so our fans will be exposed to top notch professional baseball talent right out of the gate; we expect to be in a battle every night."

With the addition of Joplin to the South Division, the American Association now has 13 total teams. The Central Division consists of the Lincoln Saltdogs, Gary South Shore Railcats, Kansas City T-Bones, and the Sioux City Explorers. While the North Divsion boasts the Winnipeg Goldeyes, St. Paul Saints, Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, and the Sioux Fall Canaries.

Joplin is also now able to begin the process of building its roster. The Blasters can now officially begin making roster transactions, and will look to start building a contender.

"This is always an exciting time of the year when you get to start thinking about who will be on the field," said Blasters' GM Shawn Suarez. "We have a lot of work to do, as far as, finding a field manager and putting together the best possible roster to compete. We have definately kept tabs on certain players, and we will really start to be aggressive in free agency and trades."

The Blaster' will begin play in May of 2015 and will play all of their home games at a renovated Joe Becker Stadium.
