Women's Basketball Starts Wednesday

The Pittsburg State Women's Basketball team will hold its first official practice of the 2014-15 season on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. in John Lance Arena.

This will be the Gorillas eighth season under head coach Lane Lord. Lord enters the season with a 127-76 (.626) record in his tenure as a Gorilla.

The 2014-14 squad features five seniors, Hailey Roderique, Lizzy Jeronimus, Morgan Westhoff, Brigit Hesser and Antqunita Reed, as well as five additional returners, juniors Cathy Brugman and Kylie Gafford and sophomores Paige Lungwitz, Hadyn Herlocker and Daja Snell. The team adds six freshmen, .

Jeronimus (Lenexa, Kan.), a three-time All-American and first team All-MIAA selection leads the team averaging 18.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 assist per game over her three-year career. She enters the season with 1,600 career points and 611 rebounds, both fourth on the Pitt State career lists. She is also ninth for career assists and is only the second player in school history to rank in the top 10 for points, rebounds and assists.

Brugman (Wichita, Kan.) was second in scoring for the Gorillas last season, averaging 9.5 points per game. She led the team with 42 threes made and a .462 shooting percentage from long range.

Reed (Blakeley, Ga.) transferred to Pitt State from St. Petersburg College and was able to make an immediate impact on both the basketball and track & field teams. After averaging 9.1 points per game for the basketball team, she earned a national title in the triple jump for the track team.

The Gorillas will open 2014-15 season on November 14 at the Radisson Hotel Roseville Classic hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. The team will play in two more tournaments with three more stand alone non-conference game before the home and MIAA opener against Northwest Missouri State on December 6. December will close out with a tournament in Hawaii before the Gorillas head full force into the conference schedule on January 3.
