Updated:

Press Release PSU:

The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team will open its preseason camp Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 15). The Gorillas will take the floor for their first practice on the west court of John Lance Arena at 3:15 p.m.

Pitt State welcomes back all five starters, and eight letterwinners, from a 2013-14 squad that posted an 8-18 overall record (4-15 MIAA) for fourth-year head coach Kevin Muff, who enters the season with a 56-55 mark leading the Gorillas.

Senior guard Devon Branch headlines the list of returners. Branch (6-6, 180) averaged 20.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, earning third-team All-MIAA honors during his junior campaign.

Junior guard Jake Bullard (6-6, 190) contributed 14.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season, while dishing out a team-leading 110 assists (4.2 apg). Senior guard Sam Pugh (6-1, 180) also averaged 10.8 points per game, shooting better than 50 percent from 3-point range (.517, 43-of-83).

Junior Lamine Deng will make his debut for the Gorillas in 2014-15. Deng (6-8, 240), who signed with Pitt State out of Vincennes (Ind.) University, redshirted a year ago. He helped Vincennes to a 33-4 record and a fourth-place NJCAA Division I National Tournamen finish two seasons ago.

The Gorillas will practice in the morning Thursday and Friday (8-10 a.m.), before taking off over the weekend. Pitt State opens its 2014-15 schedule with an exhibition game against the University of Arkansas on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
