Miami, OK - A dedication ceremony for the new City of Miami Multi-Purpose Event Complex at Red Robertson Field was held Thursday on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.

The ceremony featured speakers representing the Miami Community Facilities Authority, City of Miami, OSU A&M Board of Regents, Miami Public Schools, Citizens Group for a Progressive Miami and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. Project partners recognized included Architects in Partnership, Norman; Crossland Construction, Columbus, Kansas; and OSU Long Range Planning, Stillwater.

A special tribute to the late Kent Ketcher was included in the ceremony. Mr. Ketcher served as the City of Miami's Mayor and was a passionate supporter of the project.

On February 12, 2013, voters approved the continuation of a 0.65% sales tax previously approved for city projects. The final vote was 819-596 in favor of funding the $8.8 million dollar project.

Phase 1, which was completed in time for the start of the 2013 school year, included new lighting and artificial turf.

Phase 2 included new seating, a press box, six luxury suites and an administrative suite, restrooms, concession areas and a locker room for the Miami High School football team.

The final phase, which includes the demolition of the east stands as well as the construction of restrooms, concessions and new seating, will begin upon the availability of funds.

While the MHS and NEO football and soccer teams use the facility, Robertson Field also has been home of the Oklahoma Eight Man Football Coaches Association all-star football game since 2003. Robertson Field will host the NJCAA Region 2 men's and women's soccer tournaments in November. The new complex has served as a neutral site for a handful of area football rivalry games. Future events being recruited included soccer tournaments, band competitions and concerts.
