Joplin mayor does not expect new city manager to make big changes

Updated:
Joplin's City Council may choose a new city manager Monday night.  Last week, two finalists for the position met with the public at City Hall.  The candidates are current Joplin Interim City Manager Sam Anselm and Stephen Rasmussen of Jefferson City.

Joplin's mayor hopes the City Council will meet in closed session Monday night and vote for a candidate.

The mayor also says he isn't expecting the new city manager himself to bring a lot of changes to the City.

"Joplin has a course set for itself.  I think this community has a vision for where we want to go as a community.  I would be very surprised that the next city manager would come in here and completely change the direction that our community is headed," says Mayor Mike Seibert.

The salary of the next city manager has not yet been negotiated.

"I think we'll have the best city manager we can for our community, moving forward, to meet the goals that we've set for our community and that the citizens have expressed to us that we want to look like five years from now, ten years from now as a community," says Mayor Seibert.

"When I hear somebody say well I hear they're not a visionary, I don't agree with that.  I understand where people want to have somebody that has that background and that vision of change.  To me that means change.  We've had enough change," says Mayor Seibert.

Watch the associated video to hear Mayor Seibert talk about the assistant city manager position should current Assistant/Interim City Manager Sam Anselm become head city manager.
