MIAA men's basketball season begins

The season is set to get underway as MIAA men's basketball moves into week one. 



Upcoming MIAA Previews:
Central Missouri heads to South Dakota
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. #7 Minnesota State-Mankato 6 p.m.   11/15 at Sioux Falls 2 p.m.
Central Missouri will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the Sanford Pentagon Basketball Showcase where they will face #7 MSU-Mankato and Sioux Falls. The top returning scorer for the Mules is Dillon Deck who averaging 13.8 points per game. He also led the way on the glass averaging 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Central Oklahoma travels to Tahlequah
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Southeastern Oklahoma St. 2 p.m.   11/15 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma St. 4 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will travel to Tahlequah, Okla. where they will face off with Southeastern and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The top scorer returning for the Bronchos is Cal Andrews who averaging 11.0 points per game. On the glass Jarred Bairstow averaged 5.4 boards per contest.

Emporia State heads for Las Vegas
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Concordia St. Paul 4:15 p.m.    11/15 vs. St. Cloud State 4:15 p.m.  
Emporia State will open the season in Las Vegas where they will face off with Concordia St. Paul and St. Cloud State. The Hornets top returner is Terrence Moore who led the way with 17.6 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game last season.

Fort Hays State heads for Minnesota 
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Upper Iowa 5 p.m.    11/15 vs. Minnesota State-Moorhead 1:30 p.m. 
Fort Hays State will be in Maryville, Mo. to face off with Upper Iowa and Minnesota St.-Moorhead. The Tigers top returning scorer is Craig Nicholson who averaged 17.2 points per game. On the glass Jake Stoppel averaged 4.4 boards per contest.

Lincoln travels to Southwest Baptist
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Minnesota-Duluth 3:30 p.m.   11/15 vs. Southwest Oklahoma St. 2 p.m.   11/18 at Maryville 7 p.m.
Lincoln will be at the SBU Classic as they open the season with five straight away from home. The top returning scorer for the Blue Tigers is Joshua Buie who averaged 15.3 points per game. On the glass Mike Smith led the way with 4.7 rebounds per contest.

Lindenwood leaving for Las Vegas
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. St. Cloud State 4 p.m.    11/15 vs. Concordia St. Paul 4 p.m.
Lindenwood will go to Las Vegas to face St. Cloud State and Concordia St. Paul. The top returning scorer is Darris Smith who averaged 15.6 points per game for the Lions. Garret Reeg led the way on the glass averaging 6.7 rebounds per contest.

Missouri Southern heads north to Sioux Falls
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/15 vs. Northern State 12 p.m.   11/16 at Sioux Falls 2 p.m.
Missouri Southern will be at the Sanford Pentegon Tip-off against Northern State and Sioux Falls. The top returning scorer for the Lions is Cameron Cornelius with 11.2 points per game. On the glass Greg Renfroe averaged 4.6 rebounds per contest.

Missouri Western waits for week two
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: First game 11/21 vs. Rockhurst 7 p.m.
Missouri Western will wait for week number two when they host the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic. Ryan Devers led the way last season for the Griffons averaging 17.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.

Nebraska-Kearney opens up at home
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/15 vs. Colorado Mines 7 p.m.
Nebraska-Kearney will begin the season at home when they face Colorado Mines. The top returning scorer for the Lopers Connor Baranek averaged 17.5 points per game. On the glass Ethan Brozek averaged 7.4 rebounds per contest.

Northeastern State opens the year at home
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14  vs. Northwestern Oklahoma St. 7:30 p.m. 11/15 vs. Southeastern Oklahoma St. 8:30 p.m.  11/18 vs. Harding 7:30 p.m.
Northeastern State opens the season by hosting the MIAA/GAC Basketball Challenge. The top returner for the RiverHawks is Landon DeMasters who averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest last season.

Northwest Missouri at home to open the year
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Minnesota St.-Moorhead 7 p.m.  11/15 vs. Upper Iowa 3:30 p.m. 
Northwest Missouri will play host to two teams from the NSIC as they open the season at home. Connor Crooker is the team's top returning scorer with 11.2 points per game. On the glass Grant Cozad averaged 3.8 rebounds per contest.

Pittsburg State on the road to start the year
Last Week: Did not play  
Upcoming: 11/15 vs. Augustana 8 p.m.   11/16 vs. Northern State 4 p.m.
Pittsburg State will head to the Sanford Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls. The top returner for the Gorillas is Devon Branch who averaged 20.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.

Southwest Baptist faces #6 Drury in week one
Last Week: Did not play   Upcoming:  11/14 vs. Southwestern Okla. St. 7:30 p.m.
11/15 vs. Minnesota Duluth 4:30 p.m.   11/18 at #6 Drury 7:30 p.m.
Southwest Baptist will be at home for two before traveling to face #6 Drury. The top returner for the Bearcats is Menas Stephens who averaged 7.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest last season.

Washburn hits the road, then at home for two
Last Week: Did not play  Upcoming: 11/14 vs. Augustana 8 p.m.  11/15 vs. #7 MSU-Mankato 6 p.m.  11/17 vs. Southwestern 7 p.m.  11/18 vs. Peru St. 7:30 p.m.
Washburn will travel to Sioux Falls before playing two straight at home. The top returner for the Ichabods is Alex North who averaged 16.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest this season.
