Dava Daylight Crowned 2014 Miss Indian NEO

Updated:
MIAMI, OKLAHOMA -

Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 – In a recent crowning ceremony, the American Indian Center for Excellence (AICE) in conjunction with the Native American Student Association (NASA) at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) crowned Dava Daylight as the third Miss Indian NEO.

Daylight is a freshman Psychology and Sociology major from Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She represents the Quapaw, Osage, Shawnee and Delaware Tribes, and her past accomplishments include teaching drug and alcohol awareness classes for elementary and middle school students and holding multiple titles.

At NEO, Daylight is an active member of NASA and regularly volunteers in the local community. She is passionate about keeping Native culture alive and hopes to use the Miss Indian NEO title to raise awareness on campus and in the community.

Daylight follows the 2013 Miss Indian NEO, Sarah Tanner. Tanner's reign as Miss Indian NEO has been filled with multiple engagements, including presentations at area schools and involvement in many NEO cultural events.

Tanner is a sophomore Psychology and Sociology major from Jay, Oklahoma. Her passions include maintaining Native culture and addressing issues that face Native youth. “I have grown so much because of my time as Miss Indian NEO. I would not be nearly as confident without having had this experience,” remarked Tanner.

“We are so proud of these young ladies,” said Claudia Little Axe, AICE Director. “Sarah has been an amazing representative, and we are excited to see Dava grow into this new role.”
