MIAA men's basketball moves into week five

Many teams will take a break from the league schedule as MIAA women's basketball heads into week five.



Upcoming MIAA Previews:
#4 Central Missouri steps outside of conference
Last Week: 12/4 d. Fort Hays State 80-71    12/8 d. Alderson Broaddus 73-62
Upcoming: 12/15 vs. Culver-Stockton 7:30 p.m.
#4 Central Missouri will face Culver-Stockton in their only action of week number five. The Mules are led by Rakeem Dickerson who is averaging 14.8 points and 5.7 assists per game. Dillon Deck is averaging 11.3 points, TJ White 10.6 points and Kyle Wolf 10.1 points per contest.

Central Oklahoma takes the week off
Last Week: 12/4 d. Lindenwood 93-70   12/7 d. Lincoln 93-70
Upcoming: Next 12/18 at #4 Central Missouri
Central Oklahoma opened league play with back-to-back 93-70 wins and will now take the week off. The Bronchos are led by Mahlon Jones who is averaging 15.3 points and Garen Wright with 14.1 points per game. Cal Andrews is averaging 10.7 points and Seth Heckart 10.5 points per contest.

Emporia State hits the road
Last Week: 12/3 l. to Northwest Missouri 63-57    12/6 d. Rockhurst 92-63
Upcoming: 12/13 at Southwest Baptist 3:30 p.m.
Emporia State will hit the road to face Southwest Baptist as they continue league play. The Hornets are led by Terrence Moore who is averaging 18.7 points per game as well as a team best 4.9 rebounds per contest. Jay Temaat is averaging 11.1 points and Jevon Taylor is averaging 10.4 points per game.

Fort Hays State closes out homestand
Last Week: 12/4 l. to #6 Central Missouri 80-71  12/6 d. Missouri Western 90-78   12/8 d. NW Oklahoma State 94-50
Upcoming: 12/16 vs. Bethany 7:30 p.m.
Fort Hays State will close out a four game homestand against Bethany. The Tigers are led by Craig Nicholson with 16.2 points and 6.2 assists and Dom Samac with 11.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Lincoln off for the week 
Last Week: 12/4 d. Northeastern State 75-69    12/7 l. to Central Oklahoma 93-70
Upcoming: Next 12/18 vs. Washburn
Lincoln will take the week off before returning to league play against Washburn. The Blue Tigers are led by Joshua Buie is 17.7 points and Mike Smith with 14.1 points per contest.

Lindenwood readies for two 
Last Week: 12/4 l. to Central Oklahoma 93-70    12/6 l. to Northeastern State 86-65
Upcoming: 12/10 vs. Missouri St. Louis 7 p.m.    12/13 at Maryville 3 p.m.
Lindenwood will face Missouri St. Louis at home before facing Maryville on the road. The Lions are led by Cory Arentsen who is averaging 13.3 points per contest and Garett Reeg with 5.6 rebounds per game.

Missouri Southern comes home
Last Week: 12/4 l. to Nebraska-Kearney 93-73    12/6 d. Washburn 87-61
Upcoming: 12/16 vs. Culver-Stockton 7 p.m.
Missouri Southern will take on Culver-Stockton in their only action of week five. The Lions are led by Taevaunn Prince who is averaging 13.3 points, Lane Barlow with 12.3 points and Cameron Cornelius with 11.3 points per contest.

Missouri Western opens three-game homestand
Last Week: 12/6 l. to Fort Hays State 90-78
Upcoming: 12/14 vs. Baptist Bible College 3:30 p.m.
Missouri Western will be at home to face Baptist Bible College in their only action of week five. The Griffons are led by Ryan Devers who is averaging 12.9 points and Kevin Thomas with 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Nebraska-Kearney plays three in week five
Last Week: 12/4 d. Missouri Southern 93-73    12/6 d. Southwest Baptist 80-62 
Upcoming: 12/10 at Bellevue 7 p.m.   12/13 at South Dakota Mines 5 p.m.    12/15 vs. Hastings 7 p.m. 
Nebraska-Kearney will play three games during week five with two on the road. The Lopers are led by MIAA Athlete of the Week Ethan Brozek who is averaging 20.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Northeastern State takes the week off
Last Week: 12/4 l. to Lincoln 75-69    12/6 d. Lindenwood 86-65
Upcoming: Next 12/18 at Missouri Western
Northeastern State will take the week off before returning to MIAA play. The RiverHawks are led by Michael Harmon with 19.9 points and Demone Harrison with 13.3 points per game this season.

Northwest Missouri opens homestand
Last Week: 12/ 3 d. Emporia State 63-47   12/6 l. to Pittsburg State 69-67
Upcoming: 12/16 vs. Iowa Weselyan 7 p.m.
Northwest Missouri will face Iowa Wesleyan in their only action of week five. The Bearcats are led by Justin Pitts with 17.1 points, Conner Crooker with 13.9 points, Grant Cozad with 12.5 points and Zach Schneider with 11.4 points per game

Pittsburg State waits a week
Last Week: 12/6 d. Northwest Missouri 69-67
Upcoming: Next 12/20 vs. Southwest Baptist
Pittsburg State will next be in action on Dec. 20 against Southwest Baptist. The Gorillas are led by Josiah Gustafson who is averaging 17.0 points and Devon Branch who is scoring 16.6 points per contest.

Southwest Baptist returns home
Last Week: 12/4 l. to Washburn 68-56   12/6 l. to Nebraska-Kearney 80-62
Upcoming: 12/13 vs. Emporia State 3:30 p.m.  12/15 vs. Blue Mountain 7 p.m.
Southwest Baptist will play Emporia State and Blue Mountain at home this week. The Bearcats are led by Menas Stephens who is averaging a double-double with 12.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest.

Washburn plays two in week five 
Last Week: 12/4 d. Southwest Baptist 68-56  12/6 l. to Missouri Southern 87-61
Upcoming: 12/13 at Rockhurst 2 p.m.   12/15 vs. Tabor 7:30 p.m.
Washburn will face Rockhurst and Tabor in week five before returning to league play. The Ichabods are led by Alex North with 13.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this season.

    Cattle Theft, $5000 Reward in Crawford County, KS

    The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says nearly 30 head of cattle have been stolen from an area farm. On September 22nd, 2018, authorities responded to the area of south 520th Ave (Country Club Rd) and 205th Street about the theft of cattle. The cattle, belonging to Wood Farms, are 600 to 650 lbs, all black in color with some having white faces except one all red steer.     The crash happened around 7:25 a.m. on September 24th, 2018 in McDonald County, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Billy Penn was driving a Dodge Neon north on Route E, about five miles south of Powell, when he crossed the center line and hit a GMC Sierra head-on. Penn, of California, Missouri, died at the scene. The 57-year-old driver of the GMC had minor injuries.More >>
