The Missouri Southern basketball team took a 41-40 lead into the locker room, but out-scored visiting Culver-Stockton 56-23 in the second half en route to a 97-63 win on Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center this evening.

Southern (7-4) was led in scoring by 19 points from Lane Barlow as the senior went 6-8 from the field and 6-7 from the free-throw line. Four players scored in double-figures overall and every Lion in the lineup scored on the evening. Taevaunn Prince had 15 points and ten rebounds, going 10-10 from the free-throw line. Charlie Brown scored 11 and Cameron Cornelius added ten points.

CSC (6-5) counted the game as an exhibition game and the Wildcats were led by 21 points from Marques Pool, all of which was scored in the first half.

The first half was a story of runs by both teams. The Lions opened up the game on a 7-0 run behind four points from Barlow and a three from Austin Wright. The Lions' lead reached ten (13-3) after a layup from Cornelius with 16:09 left in the half, but the Wildcats cut the lead to two twice, the last at the 8:58 mark when a pair of free-throws from Campbell Millar made the score 24-22.

The Lions used an 11-0 run and a pair of freebies from Prince gave Southern a 35-22 lead with 5:14 to go in the half, but once again, CSC answered with its own run and a three from Millar gave the Wildcats a 40-39 lead with 33 seconds to go in the half. A pair of free-throws from Brown with two seconds left gave Southern a 41-40 lead at the break.

Southern opened up a 13-point lead (59-46) after a pair of free-throws from Barlow at the 13:45 mark of the second half, but the Wildcats on a jumper from Travon Mitchell cut the Lions' lead to eight (63-55) with 11:15. From there, the Lions put the game away. Southern went on a 17-0 run midway through the half and led 80-55 after a pair of freebies from Greg Renfroe

A layup from Morgan Smith with three minutes to go put the Lions up by 30 (93-63) and a pair of freebies from Brown provided the final score.

The Lions shot 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from long-range, while shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line. Southern held a 36-24 advantage in the paint and scored 30 points off of 25 CSC turnovers.

The Lions will be back in action this Saturday when Southern plays host to Emporia State. Tipoff from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is slated for 2 pm.
