MIAA women's basketball heads into holiday break

A final week of league contests stand between many MIAA women's basketball teams and the holiday break as they enter week six. 



Upcoming MIAA Previews:
Central Missouri plays two at home
Last Week: 12/15 l. to #16 Drury 73-70
Upcoming: 12/18 vs. Central Oklahoma 5:30 p.m.    12/20 vs. Northeastern State 1:00 p.m. 
Central Missouri will close out the pre-holiday break with games against the schools from Oklahoma on their home floor. The Jennies are led by Shelby Winkelmann who is averaging 18.0 points per game. Jasmine Thompson and Justina Prairie Chief are averaging 13.8 points each while Revonnia Howard is averaging 13.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

Central Oklahoma continues league play
Last Week: 12/4 d. Lindenwood 76-47    12/7 d. Lincoln 93-66
Upcoming: 12/18 at Central Missouri 5:30 p.m.    12/20 at Missouri Western 1:30 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will face Central Missouri and Missouri Western as they continue league play. The Bronchos are led by Haley Weathers who is averaging 11.2 points and Olivia Mason with 10.4 points per game. Kylie Mayes is averaging 10.2 points and Julia Mason a team best 6.1 rebounds per contest.

#1 Emporia State closes out week with #18 MSSU
Last Week: 12/13 d. Southwest Baptist 74-63
Upcoming: 12/17 at Southern Arkansas 6 p.m.   12/20 at #22 Missouri Southern 12 p.m.
#1 Emporia State will be on the road for two including a trip to #22 Missouri Southern. The Lady Hornets are led by Kelly Moten who is averaging 15.5 points and Merissa Quick with 11.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Addie Lackey is averaging 4.5 assists while Amber Vandiver averages a team best 8.5 rebounds.

Fort Hays State hits the road
Last Week: 12/14 d. Missouri Valley 94-44    12/16 d. Kansas Weselyan 102-49
Upcoming: 12/20 at Northwest Missouri 1:30 p.m.
Fort Hays State will hit the road for their final game before the holiday break. The Tigers are led by Kate Lehman who is coming off a triple double against Kansas Weselyan and averaging a double-double with 22.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest. 

Lincoln closes out homestand
Last Week: 12/13 d. Illinois-Springfield 72-47
Upcoming: 12/18 vs. #8 Washburn 5:30 p.m.   12/20 vs. Nebraska-Kearney 1:30 p.m.
Lincoln will close out a three game homestand prior to the holiday break. The Blue Tigers are led by Kelsey Williams who is averaging 12.8 points, Dorian Briggs with 12.7 points, Hunter Yoakum with 12.3 points and Kate Frazier with 11.8 points per contest.

Lindenwood finishes homestand  
Last Week: 12/13 d. Missouri St. Louis 79-78
Upcoming: 12/18 vs. Nebraska-Kearney 5:30 p.m.   12/20 vs. #8 Wasburn 1 p.m.
Lindenwood will close out a three-game homestand before heading into the holiday break. The Lions are led by MIAA Athlete of the Week Kassidy Gengenbacher with 18.6 points per game. On the glass Vanessa Zailo is averaging 13.9 boards per game.

#22 Missouri Southern takes on #1 Emporia State
Last Week: 12/15 l. to Truman State 67-64
Upcoming: 12/20 vs. #1 Emporia State 1 p.m. 
#22 Missouri Southern will look to bounce back from their first loss as they face #1 Emporia State. The Lions are led by Sharese Jones who is averaging 14.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and Nicole Hartzog with 12.1 points per game.

Missouri Western at home for two
Last Week: 12/6 l. to Fort Hays State 81-57
Upcoming: 12/18 vs. Northeastern State 5:30 p.m.    12/20 vs. Cenral Oklahoma 1:30 p.m.
Missouri Western will play two straight at home before they break for the holidays. The Griffons are led by LaQuinta Jefferson who is averaging 18.6 points and Sarafina Handy with 13.1 points per contest.

Nebraska-Kearney stays on the road
Last Week: 12/13 d. South Dakota Mines 46-45
Upcoming: 12/18 at Lindenwood 5:30 p.m.   12/20 at Lincoln 1:30 p.m.
Nebraska-Kearney will close out a three-game road trip before the holiday break begins. The Lopers are led by Amarah Williams with 18.3 points and 8.9 rebounds and Laramey Lewis with 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.

Northeastern State closes out road trip
Last Week: 12/13 d. Rogers State 64-56
Upcoming: 12/18 at Missouri Western 5:30 p.m.    12/20 at Central Missouri 1 p.m.
Northeastern State will close out a three-game road trip in week six. The RiverHawks are led by Chelsey Beathard with 12.2 points and Fontana Tate who is scoring 11.2 points per contest.

Northwest Missouri at home for two
Last Week: 12/13 l. to Quincy 70-37
Upcoming: 12/17 vs. Missouri Valley 6 p.m.   12/20 vs. Fort Hays State 1:30 p.m.
Northwest Missouri will play two at home to close out 2014. The Bearcats are led by Ariel Easton who is averaging 15.5 points and a team best 5.5 rebounds per contest.

#5 Pittsburg State closes things out in Hawaii
Last Week: 12/16 d. BYU-Hawaii 73-40
Upcoming: 12/17 vs. Wingate 2 p.m.
#5 Pittsburg State will close out their Hawaii trip before taking time off for the holiday break. The Gorillas are led by Lizzy Jeronimus with 19.4 points and Kylie Gafford with 12.8 points as both average 6.0 rebounds per game this season.

Southwest Baptist waits for Florida trip
Last Week: 12/10 d. Missouri S&T 81-78   12/13 l. to #1 Emporia St. 74-63
Upcoming: Next 12/31 at Eckerd 2 p.m.
Southwest Baptist will next be in action on New Years Eve when they travel to Eckerd. The Bearcats are led by Brook Duncan who is averaging 13.4 points and Dilonna Johnson who is scoring 10.8 points per game.

#8 Washburn heads to Missouri
Last Week: 12/15 d. Southwestern 71-49
Upcoming: 12/18 at Lincoln 5:30 p.m.   12/20 at Lindenwood 1 p.m. 
#8 Washburn will make the trip to Lincoln and Lindenwood to close out 2014. The Ichabods are led by Taylor Ignoto with 15.0 points, Casyn Buchman with 13.9 points and Honor Duvall has 12.4 points per contest.
